Unlike her cousin, who has always had a set name and city to watch over, Supergirl has been left in a constant state of flux. Some may even argue that the constant changes have hindered her development. Supergirl's numerous aliases have caused confusion as to her identity over the years. As of now, this remains her current identity, though one has to wonder if the lack of consistency has harmed the character. She would also take on this name in the comics following the Rebirth initiative. In the CW Supergirl show, Kara would adopt the name Kara Danvers. During her appearances in the later seasons of Smallville, she would settle on the name Kara Kent, posing as Clark's cousin from Minnesota. The character has taken on other names across various forms of media as well. Ultimately, she would take on the identity of Linda Lang, after Lana proposed the idea, and the two resided in Metropolis. After discussing the issue with her cousin, Kara would understand the importance of having a secret identity, which would allow her to take a break from heroics. She would spend all of her time operating as a superhero only to be met with criticism from the public. Following her re-introduction, she would struggle to acclimate to her new home in Metropolis. In the reboot that followed, DC wanted to emphasize the fact that Superman was the last survivor of Krypton, and as a result, Kara would be erased from continuity, though she eventually returned.Īlthough another Supergirl appeared in the years between, Kara would not return until 2004 in Superman/Batman #8 (By Jeph Loeb, Michael Turner, Peter Steigerwald, and Richard Starkings). One of the few things the cousins have of their original society is their birth names, but the meaning of Kara’s name is almost the complete opposite of Clark’s.As such, she took on the identity of Linda Lee, an orphan residing in the Midvale Orphanage. Again - you guys dont have to keep reverting to this erased thing. But Kara was an active member of Krypton’s society, and she still remembers everything about it fondly. Kara Zor-El is the only person to have made it off of Krypton. For Superman, Earth is all he’s ever truly known, and he sees himself as a human, even with the amazing powers he has. Though Clark is a Kryptonian, with a Kryptonian name, he never experienced his home planet of Krypton in the same way that Kara did. When asked why, Kara tells Lana that the name 'Kara Zor-El' is too painful to hear now, and only serves to remind her of everything she's lost. But Kara isn’t just adopting Linda’s name for the public, she wants to ditch both her Kara and Supergirl identities and live as Linda full time. She moves back in with her close confidante, Lana Lang, and resumes her former secret identity as Lana’s niece, Linda. While the world celebrates its defeat over the invading forces of Superman’s nemesis, General Zod, Supergirl mourns in private for losing her culture yet again. ![]() In Supergirl #53 by Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle, the titular hero is still grappling with the recent destruction of New Krypton.
